WEBINAR: Unitary Patent, an industry IP Challenge ahead in 2023
20th september 2022 (10:00 to 11:30 am)

The European Union has kicked off its major patent reform. Important changes are taking shape at the beginning of next year. Innovative Swiss companies must inform themselves and decide whether they wish to submit their patents to the new system or whether they prefer the optingout method.

The kick-off to the biggest patent reform in Europe since more than forty years was given in January 2022. The European unitary patent (unified patent, UP) and the unified patentcourt (UPC) will see the day this year. This move is of great importance for Switzerland, which is one of the main applicants for European patents at the European Patent Office (EPO). Indeed, all European patents, including those existing at the time of entry into force, will be subject to the new system, in the absence of a declaration to the contrary by their holders (opting-out). Companies therefore have a decision to make.
